The Full Story

Engineering Roots. Legal Expertise. A Career Built at the Intersection of Both.

With an undergraduate background in Electrical & Computer Engineering, with a concentration in Telecommunications (University of Louisiana at Lafayette), Garrett P. LaBorde, Esq. entered the legal profession carrying a systems-level perspective that few practitioners share. That foundational training — rooted in logic, architecture, and problem-solving at scale — has shaped every dimension of how he approaches the law.

The thesis he has carried from engineering school into every courtroom, contract negotiation, and AI deployment is this: law, math, and engineering are non-obvious, distant cousins — each runs on fixed constants, rules, and variables that resolve to a result. Jurisdiction is just the environment that changes how the formula behaves.

Over his 25-year legal career, Garrett has built a practice at the intersection of substantive legal skill and technological innovation. Where other attorneys adapted to technology out of necessity, Garrett integrated it as a deliberate professional philosophy — treating automation, workflow design, and digital infrastructure as core competencies, not afterthoughts.

Over my 25-year legal career, I've also been a sought-after Practice Management & Legal Tech Thought leader, Advisor & Innovator — actively contributing to the national conversation on how the legal profession modernizes. That work has included active service since 2008 in the ABA Law Practice Division, ABA TechShow, and the eLawyering Task Force (as member, presenter, and program moderator), with prior service in the ABA House of Delegates, as well as meaningful service within the Louisiana State Bar, the Florida Bar, and numerous specialty bar associations.

That career arc led naturally to founding two distinct ventures. Laborde Legal Group operates as a technology-forward law firm — intentionally designed with a hybrid model to serve clients across Corporate/Business Law, Intellectual Property, Trusts & Estate Planning, and Personal Injury matters. Laborde Legal Group serves clients across FL, AL, LA, TX, CA, NY, NJ, and DC through its team of licensed attorneys. Lex Automate, launched in 2024, channels that same engineering mindset into an AI and automations consultancy dedicated to helping solo practitioners and small firms scale through intelligent workflow design, system integrations, and AI-powered legal processes.

The thread connecting both ventures is a conviction that the legal profession is not resistant to innovation — it simply requires leaders who understand both disciplines fluently. Garrett's career stands as a sustained argument for that conviction: that technical rigor and legal excellence are not competing priorities, but natural complements.

An LLM doesn't reason sequentially. It reasons everywhere, all at once — the craft is narrowing that universe with context and guardrails.
